(Rocky Hill-WTNH, Mar. 26, 2004 5:00 PM) by News Channel 8's Jocelyn Maminta - You've
heard of the Atkins Diet, South Beach diet, now there's the PAMO.
It's a high protein diet with a different twist. It's also low in
saturated fat.
If you're counting carbs but missing your fruits and vegetables
there's another diet weighing in. It's the Protein Accelerates Metabolism
Onsight diet, also known as the PAMO diet.Connecticut health expert Pam Oliver came up
with the high protein, low saturated fat plan."The protein will accelerate your metabolism.
The carbohydrates need to be incorporated into a daily eating plan.
We need them for brain power, for energy and also they are high
in fiber and the body does need balance," Oliver Said. Here's what you need on a given day: For breakfast,
two hard boiled eggs and fruit. Fat free pudding for a snack. At
lunchtime, chicken and vegetables. Dinner is a veggie burger with
a wheat roll and a vegetable, and a low fat dairy for dessert. Linda Watson has lost eight pounds so far."When I first had this vest the buttons
used to pucker a little bit, and now it's laying flat so I can tell
its working."Charles Brooks is shedding the weight right around
the middle. "I definitely feel healthier. I have a lot more
energy than I used to. Definitely not sitting on the couch all the
time."Balanced and colorful meals are at the core of
the PAMO diet. Dishes like a broccoli rabe/sausage/bean dish are
allowed. "This is my favorite. The beans because
they are so high protein and they don't have any saturated fat and
they fill you, and you want to be filled when you're trying to lose
weight. The one thing you don't want to be is hungry."People on PAMO say the plan takes the stress
out of going on a diet."You can be on it for one, two, three months,
and then you're going to understand this diet teaches you how to
eat. It teaches you how to eat. It teaches you how to lose weight
and it teaches you to incorporate all the food groups."As always check with your doctor before starting
any weight loss/exercise plan.
